Winter

It's barely still Monday, let along Morning.  My apologies.

No school today.  Kids had School Improvement Day.  So Sal and the kids were at home.  I love having them here, but I am a little selfish and miss my time alone like most Mondays.  My folks are up in Omaha for the weekend so I told Sal my plan.  I snuck out of the house; went to Casey's and got a Ruby Red Grapefruit drink and the paper; then broke into mom and dad's and did the Sudoku while watching SportsCenter.  Ahhhhhh.  Then everything was right in the world.

Was able to mow the yard, trim the bushes, spray some weeds and finish the trim on the garage.  With that, the paint on the garage is officially done.  PTL!  Now I can get to work inside on a work bench.  After that will be the all important running cable TV into it.  I know...Sal doubts I will be "working" so much in the garage that I'll need TV, but it's good to have dreams.

Church has been crazy busy.  Our interim pastor's time at our church came to a close at the end of October.  JL and I have been working with the Joyce (worship coordinator) on our church participating in Advent Conspiracy for the Christmas Season.  Youth group had a busy Saturday- we raked leaves throughout the community on Saturday morning and then ran the concession stand for the high school playoff football game in the evening.  I love doing concession stand.  Maybe even more than watching football.  You get to talk to all kinds of people.  Cassidy calls it "Creeping for Jesus".  I've been called worse.  :)

Sunday night I hosted a parent seminar called "Sex, Porn and Intimacy: talking to our kids about Godly relationships."  I don't think we talk about intimacy enough in the Church and yet it seems we are all thinking about it...all the time.  God created sex and He created it good.  Real good.  I think that's the part the scares us as parents sometimes- what if our kids find out?  They'll start and never stop.  The approach I take is a little more direct.  For youth I call the seminar "God didn't create you to be a virgin".  Well, He didn't, did He?  We got the tools, the desire and the command to "be fruitful and multiply".  As Driscoll would say, the question isn't, "Where do we draw the line (how far can I go)?"  The question is, "Is it the right time (what does God say I should be doing)?"  What I have found is that parents need the freedom to talk about these subjects.  They love talking about them and the parents teach themselves more than I give them any infinite wisdom.  We had a great time last night.  I'm going to keep doing them.

Last thing.  I loved today, but I hate this time of year.  It was 76 and beautiful.  Soon I won't be able to wear shorts and flip flops anymore.  That's a sad, sad day.  Tomorrow is to be the same and then the cold comes.  Probably for good.  On that day I put my flip flops away, I will dream of a time when I will take them out again and enjoy the humidity and 104 temperature.  I love you sun!

Dillons

Didn't want to have to do this, but gotta start with an APOLOGY for last week's post.  Some of you are thinking, "Did he swear?", "Did he gossip about someone?".  No, just didn't choose my words wisely and my friends from South Dakota held me accountable for it.  I called SDSU a "bad team".  I should have said SDSU was a team Nebraska should dominate but didn't.  In reality, that makes Nebraska the "bad team" since they didn't live up to their potential.

Pheww!!  Now we can have a Merry Christmas together in Huron.

To the week that was:

TUESDAY:  It's Pastor Meeting day.  We continue to discuss the promotion of Advent Conspiracy for the Christmas season.  I am excited about what this theme can mean to our church and my family.

WEDNESDAY:  Favorite day of the week.  Youth group went well.  We are studying the life of Moses.  Looked at how God prepared Moses for the task He had for him.  Moses responded with all the fears and excuses for why he couldn't do it.  If God spoke to you out of a burning bush, you'd think you'd obey.

THURSDAY:  Kids had Thursday/Friday off for Parent/Teacher conferences.  In the evening, Sally prepared a theme night for our family.  Our kids each got to invite a friend over.  She fixed Sweet & Sour Chicken, Almond Chicken and Egg Rolls.  Delicious!  Then watched the new "Karate Kid".  Good movie.  Though it can't top the original "Wax on.  Wax off".

FRIDAY:  Biggest highlight for the week was getting the flu shot.  Never gotten a flu shot before.  I shopped around.  Seems like everyone is providing it this year:  Walmart, Walgreens, Dillons, and even my local doctor's office.  My doctor would charge $25 plus office visit.  Everywhere else it was $24 or $25.  Did you know at Walgreens you can purchase a flu vaccine gift card?  I bet those will be popular stocking stuffers for the kids this Christmas.  Nothing says "I love you" like a shot.  I settled on Dillons since Sal had to get some groceries.  Filled out some paperwork, paid my money and had to wait.  Even at a grocery store they have a waiting room!!  Must make the person giving the shot feel important.  Anyway, a pharmist administered the shot.  I'm assuming they have the training to do that, but didn't ask.  Only in America can you walk out of your local grocery store with a flu shot and a can of Chicken of the Sea.

SATURDAY:  Painted on the garage (finally), mowed, watched the Huskers, took tickets at the girls' Sub-State volleyball (good season gals!), and had a dinner party with friends.  What happens at the Toziers, stays at the Toziers.

SUNDAY:  Was awesome!  Second favorite day of the week.  Led baptism class, welcome/announcements and sharing.  During sharing time we had a gal talk who recently had a valve replaced in her heart.  She did great!  Watched the Chiefs with friends, took a two hour nap and talked to my man Xavier.  God is doing an amazing work in his life.  I am so proud of the man of God he is growing up to be.

If you like pro football, you gotta check out Deon Sanders every Monday on the NFL Network Online:  Let's Go Primetime!

Back in the Saddle

SabBRADical was great.  And I enjoyed blogging.  But I wasn't sure I could handle the pressure of blogging all the time.  Still not sure how it works to interact with people and blog appropriately.  I'm afraid I tend to say what I'm thinking.  What if I type what I'm thinking?  Could be dangerous.

Cassidy just read over my shoulder and asked, "Why MONDAY MORNING YOUTH PASTOR?"  Good question.  In sports, a Monday Morning Quarterback is a person who goes back to work after the football games on the weekend and has all the answers for what his football team should have done to win the game.  For me, I guess it's the idea of looking back over the week and more specifically at Sunday (when a lot of my work takes place) and giving perspective.  I loved the title "SabBRADical" but I gotta move on.

OK, so my first post will be about football.  Got to go to the Nebraska vs Texas game on Saturday.  Beautiful day.  Had a mushroom and cheese Runza for lunch.  Game was so-so.  Texas was better than us on that day, but I also think Nebraska shot themselves in the foot a lot.  I haven't thought we looked like a team that would play for the National Championship, so it's a good dose of reality for Nebraska fans.  Our family went to the South Dakota State/Nebraska game in September.  I'd rather pay any day to watch Nebraska play a good team and lose than watch them play a bad team and win.  The hype was cool.

Alright.  That's it for this week.  Next Monday I'll get back on schedule.
